THE PLAYING FIELD ASSOCIATION
A Bit of Background
Sport has been played on the Sellicks Green field for around 75 years, with records of cricket being played there in the early to mid 1940s. At the end of the Second World War a celebration was organised for the ‘Homecomers’. This event was very successful and money raised from it and other fund-raising events was sufficient to purchase the field from a local farmer.
In 1947 the care and management of the field was entrusted to a registered charitable trust with a committee made up of representatives of the various organisations that existed in the Parish of Pitminster. These days the committee that runs the organisation is known as The Playing Field Association (PFA).
Golf is not allowed on the Playing field
We must make it clear that golf is not permitted on the field at any time. There has been a sharp increase recently and this is dangerous to walkers and other field users. Please refrain from this activity, many thanks - The PFA Committee.
SPORT & RECREATIONAL FACILITIES
Those who benefit
Today’s playing field offers a number of sporting and recreational facilities including a full-size football pitch, a tennis court, a cricket pitch and cricket net, a sports pavilion and a newly-refurbished children’s play area. We have active football and cricket teams of all ages using the facilities on a regular basis as well as members of the tennis club.
Our current pavilion is in a poor state of repair and does not meet modern standards. We have a sub-committee developing plans and seeking grants enable us to build a new pavilion and community hall.
FUNDING OF THE FACILITIES
The upkeep of the pavilion and playing field is funded mainly by the money-raising events organised by the committee including:

The annual Summer Fete (held in early June, this is our main source of income and has raised as much as £9,000.)
