Village Festival & Fete 2022

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was celebrated in style across the Parish over the first weekend in June, with events in Blagdon Hill, Angersleigh, Pitminster and Corfe.
The 1950’s theme continued through the week of the Festival with the ration era film “A Private Function” at the film night and 1950s dress much in evidence for the Jubilee Ball at the end of the week.
The festival week began with a jubilee tea, with a quiz and 1950’s games and artefacts for people to look at and play before the traditional Blagdon Hill Fete on Saturday 4th June. Despite the multiple events on in various places over that weekend the Fete was well attended. A bunting competition and a dressing up event for kids kept the Royal theme running and the tea and cake on sale did a roaring trade right up until the Fete closed at 5pm.
Songs on Praise in the marquee was followed by Pitminster Street Party outside the Queens Arms on Sunday 5th and this traditional event was a great success despite some murky weather!
Tuesday saw nearly 100 people attend the Big Quiz which was much enjoyed by all. The following day a more sedate Historical Walk followed a section of the Pitminster stream and it’s history. A second one is planned at the time of writing, due to high demand!
Thursday’s Art Exhibition showcased the work of more than a dozen local artists and was well attended by the public coming to see a wide variety of styles and mediums. This was followed by film night on the Friday showing the very amusing A Private Function with Michael Palin and Maggie Smith.
The last event of the week was the Platinum Jubilee Ball which was a great success and thoroughly enjoyed by the capacity crowd that attended and danced the evening away in 1950’s dress!
The Playing Field Association would like to thank all those who were involved in the planning, organisation and running of the events especially those involved in the Fete; your generous contribution is greatly appreciated.
